Planning for a trek or hiking adventure?
There are certain things that you need to have before you head out impulsively
for one. Here are some things you could do-
Things that you will need
The most important thing about trekking and
hiking are having your phone (charged), charger, water, emergency snacks, and
money with you. Other things like a torch, comfortable but not heavy backpack bags, proper sneakers/walking
shoes, food stock, and water, an extra pair of clothes, survival lessons. Plan
all of this beforehand. You will need to inform your folks about this plan so
that they know where to find you in case anything goes wrong as there may be
network issues. There is no need to panic while planning all this. These are
normal and practical part of planning that even the professional trekker and
hikers do.
Detailed research of the place
Wherever you plan to go for a hike or a
long trek, it is important to know about the weather, terrain type, length of
the walk, the things you would need for it, and emergency preparations if
needed. Hikes and treks must never be taken lightly.
Special mention for walking poles
These kinds of activities are tough for
some, easy for many. It all depends on how much you have trained and
experienced it. You may need a pole to help you climb up and down the terrain.
For beginners, it is a must. There will be terrains where it may seem difficult
and walking poles help to give support to the body in relation to pressure.
Practice trekking before you start
Two months before the trekking date, start
practicing and exercising for the activity. Hiking/trekking takes a lot of
energy, muscle power, and vigour to do one. Your immune system should be strong
and you should have the good core strength to carry even the best backpacks that can be heavy.
Training from a professional is recommended as they know everything about such
activity. They can provide with amazing tips through their experience and years
of knowledge. If you cannot find a professional to help you, go online and read
several notes about trekking/hiking. Watch some videos for exercises and
survival strategies. Go to the gym for the training.
• Practice
on similar terrains
• Buy backpacks for women or men and practice
carrying it
• Practice
hydrating while trekking
Correct shoes
We have mentioned shoes before but appropriate
footwear for your trek and your walking training is highly important.
Throughout a trek, it is the legs that you depend on. A supportive hiking shoe
with ankle protection is important. Please be aware of ankle cuffs that are too
elevated as they can annoy the Achilles tendon at the base of your calf. Search
for an ankle cuff that is scooped away at the back. When buying your boots,
shop in the afternoon when your feet have expanded a little so that you get the
right size. The boots should be broken in and the feet should be bedded
properly. Now is the time for blisters, not during the trekking.
